Better Health
Do you know of or are you involved with an initiative which seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of patients, the public and/or staff, such as healthy eating; smoking cessation; financial inclusion; physical activity; equalities in health and wellbeing; or improving mental health activities. If so, then we want you to tell us all about it.
Better Value
We want to hear about initiatives which have been implemented to achieve better productivity within NHSGGC. As a staff member, maybe you have devised a way to deliver the same quality of service more efficiently or perhaps you have submitted an idea to our Small Change Matters campaign. If you know of something which is being done differently or has taken a new approach to work which makes better use of resources, then you should enter this category.
Better Workplace
We are pleased to introduce a new award category to recognise the often unseen work of our staff who are helping to make NHSGGC a Better Workplace. Have you or someone you know developed a new approach to team working at local level, helping to improve workplace culture? Or have you or someone you know delivered an innovative approach to helping improve staff health and wellbeing. If you are a staff member share with us how you have positively supported diversity, inclusion and releasing potential of your colleagues or nominate one of your team/manager for supporting you personally.
Global Citizenship
Do you know someone who has travelled overseas either as part of a team or individually to provide healthcare and/or education in developing countries or in countries in crisis? Or maybe you have been part of a team who has travelled overseas. Are you or someone you know in the Reserve Forces or have you or someone you know taught people from abroad within NHSGGC’s own healthcare facilities. We want to hear all your stories of our staff helping people from other countries.
Nursing & Midwifery
Do you know a nurse or group of nurses who display the best qualities of patient care and the ethos of nursing? Do you know a nurse or midwife who deserves recognition? Has someone you know made a difference to the care of patients and their families in a hospital or in the community? If so, we want you to tell us all about them.
Volunteer
We want to hear about people who are providing outstanding help and support through volunteering or those who have provided patient opinions perhaps on a Public Partnership Forum within a HSCP or on a patients’ panel. The people that go the extra mile, contributing tirelessly for the benefit of other patients, we want to hear about the work they do.

When filling in your nomination form, don’t forget to put as much detail as you can. Remember, you are telling a judging panel who don’t know the person, team or service you are nominating. Simply saying someone goes above and beyond is not enough detail for the judging panel to score on. Give clear, direct and specific detail. Include enough information for the panel to become familiar with the nominee.

The way in which the person/team or the project is exemplary should be detailed
Start with a clear, direct, and specific statement of why the nominee deserves recognition. Include enough information for the panel to become familiar with the nominee’s specific challenges faced, actions taken, and results or goals met. List the most important information in the first few sentences and then elaborate as necessary
Give specific examples that address the award criteria and elaborate on why the nominee’s accomplishments are worthy of the award
Examples could include outcomes, results, and/or activities ‘above and beyond’ the nominee’s job description. Include qualities that make this person outstanding, and that are clearly relevant to the award criteria (eg, contribution, team-building, collaboration, initiative, and leadership)
Provide a complete overview of the nominee or team’s accomplishments. It is important to tell the nominee’s story as you would to a stranger.
We are delighted to announce that we have teamed up with neighbouring local authority leisure providers to offer staff the chance to sign up to discounted leisure memberships. The scheme works by NHSGGC paying the annual membership fee, entitling staff to a 12 months membership. Staff sign a salary mandate form and the payments are deducted on a monthly basis from salary for a period of 12 months.

NHSGGC staff can take advantage of a reduced membership rate of £21.96 per month for the Glasgow Club. This gives access to all local authority sport and leisure facilities in Glasgow, including swimming, gym, and fitness classes. For more information go to www.glasgowclub.org

Food and fluid mythbusters are part of the Food First campaign
The campaign focuses on the importance of food and drink in improving a patient’s recovery and how it can potentially lead to quicker discharge from hospital.
The information is aimed at staff, patients, visitors and family and highlights the role we can all play in patient recovery.
The NHSGGC staff Excellence Awards are looking for patients, visitors and staff to nominate our dedicated teams and individuals. Our staff truly have gone above and beyond in this past year and a half and we want you to tell us about your experience of outstanding care.
These prestigious awards are for individual members of staff, teams, or projects that have identified ways to deliver improvements that benefit patients and service uses, colleagues, or NHSGGC.
Staff, patients and visitors can all nominate in these awards. We want you to tell us about the dedicated teams and individuals who go to extraordinary lengths to provide exceptional care for people who use our health services.
But we’re not just looking to celebrate the tremendous efforts of our staff. We are also looking for services that staff have moulded to patients’ needs, or projects that have transformed the way we work.
There are seven categories in our Excellence Awards, so there is a category to fit every project, programme, or an outstanding member of staff.
Our awards are a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on someone you know, who goes above and beyond the call of duty, to provide exceptional care and support.
We know our staff provide incredible patient care but we need you to tell us your stories.
Our Internal Communications Team communicates news to over 40,000 NHSGGC staff. This is done using a range of digital and physical channels, including the daily Core Briefs.
