Food and fluid mythbusters are part of the Food First campaign
The campaign focuses on the importance of food and drink in improving a patient’s recovery and how it can potentially lead to quicker discharge from hospital.
The information is aimed at staff, patients, visitors and family and highlights the role we can all play in patient recovery.
The NHSGGC staff Excellence Awards are looking for patients, visitors and staff to nominate our dedicated teams and individuals. Our staff truly have gone above and beyond in this past year and a half and we want you to tell us about your experience of outstanding care.
These prestigious awards are for individual members of staff, teams, or projects that have identified ways to deliver improvements that benefit patients and service uses, colleagues, or NHSGGC.
Staff, patients and visitors can all nominate in these awards. We want you to tell us about the dedicated teams and individuals who go to extraordinary lengths to provide exceptional care for people who use our health services. The award ceremony will take place Friday 30 October 2026.
But we’re not just looking to celebrate the tremendous efforts of our staff. We are also looking for services that staff have moulded to patients’ needs, or projects that have transformed the way we work.
There are nine categories in our Excellence Awards, so there is a category to fit every project, programme, or an outstanding member of staff.
Our awards are a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on someone you know, who goes above and beyond the call of duty, to provide exceptional care and support.
We know our staff provide incredible patient care but we need you to tell us your stories.
Our Internal Communications Team communicates news to over 40,000 NHSGGC staff. This is done using a range of digital and physical channels, including the daily Core Briefs.
Core Brief is our regular employee update and provides important updates across a variety of topics, ranging from operational and site specific information, through to messages for our staff from our Chief Executive.

In this issue Jane talks welcomes our new group of newly qualified doctors to our hospitals and thanks our doctors who have come to the end of their rotations with NHSGGC. We also we welcomed the Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care, Michael Matheson MSP, to our Long COVID Service. She talks about the ways in which we may use WhatsApp and congratulates Erin Walker, one of our Specialist Physiotherapists within Older Peoples Services, who has won a highly prestigious international award. This week our patient feedback comes from the partner of one of our patients who was treated by the Stroke Care service at the IRH.
In this issue Jane talks about: an unannounced HIS inspection at Gartnavel General Hospital, meeting with the maternity team at the QEUH to speak with them about the Best Start project and visit the Alongside Midwife Unit, Neonatal Unit teams at the GRI and PRM were recognised by UNICEF, today is World Hepatitis Day & patient feedback from the parent of one of our young patients who received treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children.
