SPHERE Bladder and Bowel Service

Contact Information

The SPHERE Bladder and Bowel Service provides a professional, caring, confidential and supportive approach to people with bladder or/and bowel symptoms. The aim of the team is to promote continence by empowering the individual to self manage their symptoms by teaching behavioural and lifestyle changes that can promote bladder and bowel health.

To support the individual, the service has two specially trained teams across the city. These teams include specialist nurses and physiotherapists who can advise and support the individual on improving their bladder or/and bowel symptoms or prevent any deterioration by facilitating and providing rehabilitative treatments.

Environmental Control Services

Provides services to patients within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board area. This service enables people with severe disabilities to independently control their home environment including door-entry, intercom, telephony, AV equipment, heating and lighting.

Neurobiomechanics Service

Supports patients with complex gait problems by integrating the assessment and planning of medical, therapy and orthotic interventions making use of a range of simple and complex gait analysis equipment.

Prosthetics Service

The Prosthetics Service provides life long prosthetics care for individuals with amputation and/or congenital absence of a limb. This may include patients with multiple level limb absence and/or complex clinical requirements.

Wheelchair and Seating Service

The largest service provided by WestMARC with a caseload exceeding 42,000 wheelchair users. Clinics are conducted within the Centre and at many satellite locations across the West of Scotland. This service works with Universities to provide placements for students.

Lightburn Hospital has 60 inpatient beds over a 3 ward model for Older People requiring rehabilitation.

The site also facilitates weekly Falls, Movement Disorder and General clinics as well as the day hospital activity providing patients access to assessment, treatment or rehabilitation as an outpatient.
