Competition heats up as Glasgow Royal Infirmary decorates wards

  • 3 min read

Members of staff at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary have been spreading the festive cheer as they compete to be crowned best decorated Christmas ward.

The competition takes place every December and this year staff of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have went over and above.

Lead Nurse, Anna Syme, says “I can’t believe the lengths teams have gone to in decorating their wards. Staff have come in on their days off to make sure their wards are decorated for patients, some of whom will spend Christmas Day in hospital.

“Nursing Teams have never been more challenged, and still, the Christmas Spirit goes on – they really amaze me!”

Lead Nurse Liz Thomson, from the Acute Medical Receiving Unit, said: “This is a great example of coming together as a team to do good.

“The team have done so much in their own time, outside of working hours, and I think that shows how much it means to them. It really has improved morale and patients and relatives love it.”

Judging for the winner takes place on Thursday, 21 December with a number of wards and departments in the running to take the title as best decorated ward.

Associate Chief Nurse for the North Sector, Patricia Myers, will have the final decision on the winner.

She said: “I think the work that has been undertaken by staff across our wards has been magnificent.

“Members of staff have taken time out of their busy personal lives to help decorate our wards to make patients feel at home during the Christmas period.

“It is not easy being in hospital over the festivities and I hope the work that has been done by our wonderful teams at NHSGGC will help bring some Christmas cheer.

“I am already struggling to pick a winner due the calibre of entries from some of the wards.

“I would like to thank all of the staff who have been involved this year and I am already looking forward to next year to see what it brings.”
