IRH midwives and chaplain to take part in baby loss memorial service

  • 2 min read

Midwives and the spiritual care chaplain from Inverclyde Royal Hospital will take part in a remembrance service for parents who have lost babies this weekend.

Reverend Jeanette Peel, Registered Healthcare Chaplain and Spiritual Care Bereavement Champion at the IRH, will lead the service at the Rankin Memorial Garden at Greenock Cemetery alongside Reverend Gerry Gallagher of St Patrick’s RC Church on Sunday.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde midwife Lesley Anne Lang will say a poem, and candles will be lit by bereaved parents.

There will also be prayers, a blessing and readings, before an opportunity for quiet reflection and remembrance.

Those attending will be invited to share in refreshments at the Crematorium afterwards.

Rev Peel said: “This weekend’s Remembrance Service for Babies is for anyone who has been affected by baby loss.

“It will give parents and families an opportunity to acknowledge how precious their baby’s life was, and what their loss means to them.

“In my role as Healthcare Chaplain and Spiritual Care Bereavement Champion at the IRH, I am here to help parents in Inverclyde process their loss, alongside our caring midwives.

“We would like to welcome anyone affected to attend this service on Sunday, and would encourage people to seek support if they need it.”

The service begins at 2pm and is expected to last for around an hour.
