Covid-19 vaccination bus to visit low uptake areas

  • 4 min read

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is urging those who are eligible to get their spring dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to keep their protection going and lower their risk of hospitalisation should they get the virus.

The health board is rolling out a vaccination bus to five locations across Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) from Monday 15th April to provide easier access to the service. No appointments are required for the drop-in bus that will visit sites in Parkhead, Greenock, Neilston, Paisley, and Clydebank.

These locations have been chosen across GGC based on low appointment attendance figures from the Covid-19 vaccine winter rollout. These figures showed that vaccine uptake for over 75 year olds was below 60 per cent in Glasgow City Centre South, Govanhill West, City Centre West, and Darnley West.

Uptake for those with a weakened immune system during the winter rollout dropped to lower than 40 per cent in Parkhead West, Ferguslie, Nitshill, Yoker South, and Glenwood North.

NHSGGC Director of Public Health, Emilia Crighton, explained that the message to take the spring dose of this vaccine is important for everyone who is eligible as they are vulnerable to Covid-19, even in the warmer months.

“It is important that if you are over 75 or have a weakened immune system that you attend your appointment or visit a drop-in vaccination bus, even if you had a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in winter. The vaccine dates are scheduled throughout the year to ensure that your protection does not fade. Taking the vaccine could prevent you from becoming seriously unwell or hospitalisation.

“This message is also very important if you missed your winter dose. Your protection will be even weaker, making you more vulnerable,” she said.

The NHSGGC Covid-19 vaccination bus will be in the following locations at the scheduled dates. Community clinics will also operate evening drop-in sessions from Monday 15th April to Sunday 21st April. Dates are listed below.
