Wellbeing workshop launched for pregnant women

  • 3 min read

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has launched a new wellbeing workshop designed to support women through the emotional journey of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Led by NHSGGC’s team of Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Midwives, the 90-minute sessions are available both in-person and online, offering flexible access to expert guidance and peer support.

This interactive workshop explores common emotional experiences during pregnancy and provides practical tools to manage stress and anxiety.

Participants will learn grounding relaxation techniques, be introduced to hypnobirthing, and gain insights into bonding with their baby and self-care after birth. The sessions also highlight the vital role of partners and fathers, ensuring the whole family feels supported.

“Pregnancy is a journey that can bring emotional challenges, both before and after birth,” said Stephanie Mair, Specialist Midwife.

“These workshops offer a safe, supportive space where women can connect, share experiences if they wish, and realise they’re not alone. It’s about making support accessible and reassuring.”

Stephanie explained that there are things every pregnant woman can do to help take care of their mental wellbeing. She said:

“Looking after your emotional wellbeing starts with the basics, getting enough sleep, eating regularly, staying hydrated, and taking care of yourself. We know this can be hard, especially with a new baby either on the way or a newborn, but leaning on your support network can make a big difference.

“We also encourage gentle activity, like walking or spending time outdoors. Even small steps can have a positive impact on your mental health.”

The workshops are part of a wider network of support provided by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde including:

  • The Digital Therapies team, who offer supportive digital interventions via the SilverCloud – Space for Perinatal Wellbeing programme.
  • The Maternity & Neonatal Psychological Interventions (MNPI) service, who offer support for those experiencing complex pregnancies, births or neonatal complications.
  • The community Perinatal Mental Health Service, who provides support to those experiencing or at risk of moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
  • Wee Minds Matter, the Infant Mental Health Service, are also available to support early parent-infant relationships.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health during or after pregnancy, please speak to your midwife, GP, or health visitor, or contact NHS 24 on 111. In an emergency, always call 999.
