VoLH to RAH shuttle bus service – FAQ

Why is the transport service changing?

This new NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) service replaces the service run by the bus company, which was underused, with passenger uptake ranging between 33% to 35% across most scheduled journeys.

This new transport service is a more cost-effective approach.

Who can use the service?

This transport service is available for NHS staff, patients with an appointment at the Vale of Leven Hospital (VoLH) or the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), carer companions and visitors.

When did the new changes come into effect?

The new NHSGGC service launched on Sunday 29th June.

How has the route changed?

This new service travels directly between the VoLH and the RAH. This service does not make any other stops.

However, if a patient requires transport from another location, such as Helensburgh, the Board’s transport policy can provide financial support, if appropriate, to help them attend an appointment.

Where does the service stop at each hospital?

At the VoLH, the bus starts and ends at the Maternity Building at the front of the bus stop.

At the RAH, the bus starts and ends at the Main Entrance at the rear of the bus stop.

Is the new service be more frequent?

Yes, this new service is more frequent. The timetable for the new service can be found by clicking here.

What is the cost of the new service?

This service is free to use, so the cost of the service has been removed. 

Will the new service run on public holidays?

A Saturday service will operate on public holidays.

No service will operate on Christmas Day (25th December) or New Year’s Day (1st January).

Is the new service accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes, the transport is accessible for wheelchair users.

Is the new service accessible for prams and buggies?

Yes, the transport is accessible for prams and buggies.

Do I need to book to use the service?

No, you don’t need to book. The transport can provide up to 18 seats and seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

What other transport is available in the area?

  • Royal Alexandra Hospital travelling to Paisley via McGill’s services 10, 17 or 20
  • Paisley to Glasgow via First Glasgow service 9, McGill’s services 26 or 38, or Scotrail services from Paisley Gilmour Street Station to Glasgow Central Station
  • Paisley to Clydebank via McGill’s service 757
  • Glasgow/Clydebank to Dumbarton via First Glasgow services 1 or 1A
  • Dumbarton to Vale of Leven via First Glasgow services 205 or 206
