Why is the transport service changing?
This new NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) service replaces the service run by the bus company, which was underused, with passenger uptake ranging between 33% to 35% across most scheduled journeys.
This new transport service is a more cost-effective approach. The costs of the service provided by the bus company increased markedly, rising to over £174,000 annually in 2025/26.
Who can use the service?
This transport service is available for NHS staff and patients with an appointment at the Vale of Leven Hospital (VoLH) or the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).
Patients should provide proof of an appointment to access the service. Carer companions may also travel with patients.
This service will not be accessible to the public, including visitors.
When will the new changes come into effect?
The new NHSGGC service will launch on Sunday 29th June.
How will the route change?
This new service will travel directly between the VoLH and the RAH. This service will not make any other stops.
Where will the service stop at each hospital?
At the VoLH, the bus will start and end at the Maternity Building at the front of the bus stop.

At the RAH, the bus will start and stop at the Main Entrance at the rear of the bus stop.

Will the new service be more frequent?
Yes, this new service is more frequent. The timetable for the new service can be found by clicking here.
Will the cost of using the service change?
This service will be free to use, so the cost of the service will be removed.
Will the new service run on public holidays?
A Saturday service will operate on public holidays.
No service will operate on Christmas Day (25th December) or New Year’s Day (1st January).
Will the new service be accessible for people with disabilities?
Yes, the transport will be accessible for wheelchair users.
Will the new service be accessible for prams and buggies?
Yes, the transport will be accessible for prams and buggies.
Do I need to book to use the service?
No, you don’t need to book. The transport can provide up to 18 seats and seats are available on a first come, first served basis.
