NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) will support local partners with a series of events to challenge stigma and spark meaningful conversation on suicide prevention.
The events will take place as part of Suicide Prevention Week (8–14 September 2025) and support the national theme of “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” to reshape public understanding and help save lives.
The week includes two events hosted by the Glasgow City Suicide Prevention Partnership at NHSGGC sites, starting with a Candlelit Celebration of Life at Gartnavel Royal Hospital on Wednesday 10th of September 2025. This event will offer a tranquil space for remembrance and healing, inviting attendees to light candles and leave messages on a rowan tree in memory of loved ones lost to suicide.
The next event, Meander for Mental Health, will take place on the scenic grounds of Leverndale Hospital on Saturday 13th of September 2025 and will bring together families, staff, and the wider community for a day of walking, wellness activities, and connection, featuring everything from yoga and live music to alpacas and therapet sessions.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Deputy Medical Director for Mental Health Service, Una Graham, said:
“Suicide prevention across Greater Glasgow and Clyde is a year-round commitment and this week is a good landmark for people to become aware or remind themselves of how they can be prepared to help those who might need support, or how they can positively impact their own mental health.
“We are grateful to our partners and local organisations for recognising the importance of this and for bringing it to life in our local communities. The events are open to the public and we urge anyone to attend where they can. There are also online events and resources available for those who would like to know more but might not be able to make certain dates.”
