Adults who are eligible for a free flu vaccination are being urged to make use of their appointment as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde begins its adult vaccination programme on Tuesday 29 September.
Invitation letters are now being issued to older adults and people with eligible underlying health conditions, inviting them to attend a local clinic for their flu vaccination. The programme will continue throughout the winter.
With flu expected to circulate again this winter, getting vaccinated is the best way to reduce your risk of becoming seriously unwell and help protect those around you.
People are being encouraged to attend at the time and location stated in their appointment letter wherever possible. If you are unable to make your appointment, please rearrange it through NHS Inform or by calling 0800 030 8013.
This year, NHSGGC has expanded vaccination opportunities across Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with more local clinics and more weekend options than ever before, making it easier for people to find an appointment that works for them.
John O’Dowd, Interim Director of Public Health at NHSGGC, said: “If you’ve received an invitation for your flu vaccination, my message is simple: please make sure you use your appointment. Flu can make people seriously unwell, particularly older adults and those with underlying health conditions, and vaccination remains the best protection available.
“We know life can be busy and plans can change, so if you can’t attend your appointment, please don’t just let it pass. Rearranging is quick and easy through NHS Inform or by calling our vaccination helpline.
“We’ve expanded clinics across Greater Glasgow and Clyde this year, including more weekend appointments than ever before, to make it as easy as possible for people to get protected. The vaccination programme will continue throughout the winter, but protection takes time to build, so we would encourage eligible people to come forward as soon as they can.”
