Where is the Genetics Clinic?

Most people are offered an appointment at the Department of Clinical Genetics, Laboratory Medicine Building, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

Some people may be offered appointments at other Hospitals closer to their home, where these are available and appropriate.

A small proportion of people may be offered an appointment at a multidisciplinary clinic, with other Doctors or healthcare professionals as well as a Clinical Geneticist or Genetic Counsellor, where this is appropriate.

What will be discussed at the Genetic Clinic

People of all ages and with a wide range of health conditions are seen in the Genetic Clinic, and discussions are focussed on their questions.

These might include:

  • What is the diagnosis?
  • Is there a name for the condition?
  • What are the symptoms of the condition?
  • What is the chance of developing the condition?
  • What is the chance of relatives developing the condition?
  • Is there a genetic blood test available?
  • What are the options when planning a family?
