Chair and Chief Executive Awards

The Chair’s Award of Excellence is an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements, dedication, and innovation demonstrated across our teams.

This year’s winners are:

Teams across Point of Care, Emergency Medicine, Digital, Information Governance and Innovation turned bedside troponin testing into embedded practice, reducing ED waiting times, four-hour breaches and pressure on capacity.
The Scottish Newborn Screening Laboratory
The Laboratory delivered Scotland’s national newborn SMA screening programme, overcoming complex scientific, operational and logistical challenges under intense scrutiny. Their work enables earlier diagnosis and treatment, potentially transforming children’s lives.

The Chief Executive Award of Excellence recognises individual members of staff who consistently demonstrate exceptional commitment, professionalism, and dedication in their role.

This year’s winners are:

William Cullen Award Winners

The William Cullen Prizes were presented in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh across two categories.

This year’s William Cullen Prize for Education is awarded to the Paediatric Emergency Medicine team at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. By fostering a culture where learning, collaboration and professional development are valued, the team is helping to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals while continuing to deliver high-quality care for children and young people.
This year’s William Cullen Prize for Innovation goes to the Stobhill Block Room Team, led by Dr David Macpherson. Working collaboratively across nursing, anaesthetic, administrative and pre-operative services, the team introduced a dedicated block room and streamlined patient pathways using existing resources and no additional funding. Patient satisfaction has reached 98%, while the redesigned pre-operative pathway has generated significant savings in under a year.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

We are also pleased to announce that over £2,982 was raised through donations on the night and will be split between two charities: Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
