Primark comes up trumps for NHSGGC patients

  • 2 min read

High Street giant Primark has shown incredible generosity towards hospital patients in Glasgow by donating much-needed nightwear and slippers.

Due to Covid-19, most patients aren’t able to have visitors at the moment, making fresh clothing difficult to get.

Following a request from staff at Glasgow Royal, Primark responded immediately with an offer to help.

Chief nurse John Stuart said: “We were so overwhelmed with the response we got from Primark. Before we knew it a delivery arrived with 1,000 nighties and pyjamas, 1,000 pairs of slippers and comfy shoes and 1,000 pairs of socks. It was a whole van load!

“There was an even split of male and female nightwear and a great variety of different sizes. They even labelled each box with sizes and what sex they were – they had thought of absolutely everything!”

The organised delivery made the task of distributing the items around the hospital much easier for the many volunteers who stepped up to help.

John added: “We had loads to go round, so we were able to distribute items to Stobhill and Lightburn hospitals too. With the excess shoes, we were able to hand these over to homeless charities in the city including the Simon Community and the Halliday Foundation. They were so grateful and said there was enough to see them through the next few months.”

Kari Rodgers, Primark’s Director of Sales (UK, north) said: “I’m delighted that we were able to support Glasgow Royal with much-needed nightwear and slippers. Our volunteers from local Glasgow Primark stores were very happy to be able to help the community in these difficult times”
