A record number of newly qualified nurses and midwives have joined NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
This year’s intake of newly qualified nurses has hit record levels with an influx of new talent marking a significant step in the health boards commitment to address staffing challenges.
A total of 769 nurses have joined the health board, including 70 midwives, as part of this year’s graduate intake and will play a pivotal role in supporting the health service in delivering patient centred care.
The record number of nurses highlights the collaborative work between NHSGGC and educational institutions across the country who strive to ensure the best possible care for patients.
Each of the newly qualified nurses and midwives will be working across all NHSGGC hospitals and in the community across all six HSCP areas.
Professor Angela Wallace, Director of Nursing for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “I am delighted to welcome our newly qualified nurses and midwives to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and look forward to working alongside them to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.
“We have seen an increase of 69 nurses since last year’s intake which shows a true testament to NHSGGC’s commitment and resilience to ensure services operate at the highest standard.
“Strengthening the workforce is a key priority for NHSGGC and our nurses and midwives are the heart of our services.
“Their skills and previous on the job training will undoubtedly enhance the quality of care we provide within the health board and I look forward to the positive impact they will have on the health and wellbeing of our communities.”
