Minor Injuries Unit at New Victoria ACH reopens

  • 2 min read

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is pleased to announce the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at the New Victoria ACH will re-open from Monday the 13th of July.  The unit will be open from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.

The MIU is used to treat injuries such as cuts that need stitches, broken bones, sprains and minor burns.

When patients arrive at the MIU they will be spoken to by one of the nursing staff. This process is also taking place at the Emergency Department of QEUH and will be used to ensure patients are directed to the most appropriate place to receive care. If patients attend with a condition not related to a minor injury, they will be sign-posted to another service.

Staff may advise patients to contact a local pharmacy, optometrist, their GP, or the Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Patients arriving after 8pm may be advised to return the following morning.

Frances McLinden, Director for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s South Sector, said:

“The resumption of our MIU service at the New Victoria ACH forms part of a much wider remobilisation of our health service. We now have the appropriate measures and pathways in place to ensure the ongoing safety of our patients and staff within the MIU and our new front-door signposting system allows us to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time in the right place whilst we manage social distancing requirements.”
