Two NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde auxiliary nurses have tied the knot after eight years, just after landing jobs on the same hospital campus in Glasgow.
Lynsey, 25, and Lisa Sinclair, 29, met while working in a care home in 2013 and only six months ago completed training as auxiliary nurses, with both – by chance – being placed into roles on the Queen Elizabeth University (QEUH) campus – Lynsey in critical care, and Lisa at the Institute for Neuro Sciences.
Following the move to the hospital and in spontaneous fashion, the couple – both from Baillieston – decided to get married, despite both having to juggle a new change of career during the largest health pandemic the health board has ever seen.
While there was no official proposal, the couple thought it was time, and married earlier this month at the Tennox Boathouse near Largs. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, only five people were allowed at the ceremony including the brides, and the celebrant who conducted the ceremony, leaving only space for two best friends to attend. However, the couple intends on having a bigger celebration and a honeymoon when the guidelines allow them to.
Commenting, Lynsey said: “It’s been fantastic and we’re really happy. Despite the COVID restrictions which meant we could only have five people at the wedding, it was amazing. It’s also a stroke of luck we’re both now working at the same hospital campus.”
Lynsey, who was formally working in domestic services in a care home Denniston and Lisa who worked in a care home in Uddingston decided to retrain as auxiliaries so they could help support frontline staff in the hospitals.
Lisa added: “We have worked in health care since we left school, and we’re passionate about helping patients, which is why we both recently moved into training as auxiliary nurses. It’s a great environment to work in and we both have amazing and supportive colleagues who’ve helped us settle into our new roles and congratulated us on our news.”
