IRH midwives and chaplain to take part in baby loss memorial service

  • 2 min read

Midwives and the spiritual care chaplain from Inverclyde Royal Hospital will take part in a remembrance service for parents who have lost babies this weekend.

The service will take place at Greenock Crematorium on Sunday 17 May at 2pm and is open to anyone who has been affected by baby loss.

Reverend Jeanette Peel, Registered Healthcare Chaplain and Spiritual Care Bereavement Champion at the IRH, will lead the service alongside Father Gerry Gallagher.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde midwives will also take part in the service, supporting families and contributing to the acts of remembrance.

There will be prayers, readings and a blessing, alongside an opportunity for quiet reflection. Bereaved parents will be invited to light candles in memory of their babies.

Following the service, attendees will have the opportunity to gather for refreshments at the Crematorium.

Rev Peel said: “This Remembrance Service for Babies is for anyone who has been affected by baby loss.

“It gives parents and families an opportunity to acknowledge how precious their baby’s life was, and what their loss means to them.

“In my role as Healthcare Chaplain and Spiritual Care Bereavement Champion at the IRH, I am here to help parents in Inverclyde process their loss, alongside our caring midwives.

“We would like to warmly welcome anyone affected to attend and would encourage people to seek support if they need it.”

The service is expected to last for around an hour.
