Getting the care you need over the holiday weekend

  • 2 min read

GP surgeries will be closed on Monday May 6, but you’ll still be able to access healthcare services if you follow these simple steps.

  • If you feel unwell when your GP surgery is closed, and you cannot wait until the practice reopens, call NHS 24 on 111 who will provide advice and direct you to the appropriate service, if required.
  • If you think you need to attend the Emergency Department but it’s not life threatening, or if you need to attend a Minor Injuries Unit, call NHS 24 on 111.
  • If you need general medical advice, visit the NHS Inform website or call NHS 24 on 111.

Pharmacies are an important part of a range of services available to people throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde – and NHSGGC is encouraging people to take a few minutes to familiarise themselves with where to go if they need help.

Pharmacies located within health centres will be closed on Monday 6 May in line with other services provided from these locations.

The GP OOH service is not offering repeat prescriptions so make sure that you have the medication you need over the holiday weekend.

If you think you may not have enough contact your GP as soon as possible and request a repeat prescription.

Some pharmacies in health centres will be closed for the bank holiday. But you can find a list of pharmacies that will be open here.

Alan Harrison, Lead Pharmacist in the Community Pharmacy Directorate of NHSGGC, said: “All pharmacies across Scotland offer the Pharmacy First service, with means they should be the first port of call for a range of minor health conditions.

“And throughout the weekend, a number will be keeping their doors open, to make sure people can get the help they need – without an appointment, across the Health Board area.

“While we would always encourage people who need medicines and other prescriptions regularly, to make sure they have an appropriate supply, pharmacies across the NHSGGC area will be able to support in most cases if you run out of your medicines, as well as offering a range of other services.”

To find out which pharmacies are open in your area, go to the NHSGGC website for full details: Right Care, Right Place – NHSGGC.
