Early May public holiday reminder

  • 2 min read

Greater Glasgow and Clyde residents are reminded that GP practices and many pharmacies will be closed on Monday 4th May for the bank holiday.

People who need medicines regularly are encouraged to think ahead and ensure they have an appropriate supply of their repeat prescriptions.

If you need urgent medical attention and cannot wait until your GP practice reopens, please contact NHS 24 on 111.

The GP Out of Hours service is by-appointment only, so please ensure you call NHS 24 on 111 first.

A number of community pharmacies will be open on the holiday Monday and information on this can be found here: Pharmacy Opening Hours – Early May Bank Holiday – NHSGGC

Every community pharmacy in Scotland provides the Pharmacy First service, offering support and treatment for a range of minor ailments from coughs and colds to earache and heartburn. The vast majority of people who live in Scotland can walk in off the street and be seen, with no appointment necessary*.

Routine medications will not be issued by the GP Out of Hours service.

For more information on the best ways to access care, please visit Right Care, Right Place – NHSGGC.

* NHS Pharmacy First Scotland is available to everyone registered with a GP practice in Scotland or the Defence Medical Services on a permanent or temporary basis (including care home residents) and people who live in Scotland (including gypsy or travellers / asylum seeker or dependent of an asylum seeker). Visitors to Scotland are excluded from accessing the service but pharmacists will still be able to provide general help and advice to these patients, as well as provide medication for over-the-counter sale.
