Celebrating the Success of Our First EWBL-P Cohort

  • 2 min read

Congratulations to the first cohort of Band 5 nurses and midwives who undertook the Evidencing Work-Based Learning – Practitioner (EWBL-P) module. Twenty-three students successfully achieved the award, marking an important milestone for this innovative programme delivered in partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). EWBL-P helps staff recognise, evidence and gain academic credit for the valuable learning and development that already takes place within their everyday roles.

Throughout the module, students balanced the demands of clinical practice with academic study, developing professional portfolios that showcased their knowledge, skills and achievements. A particular strength of the cohort’s work was the quality of their patient-centred care case studies, which demonstrated thoughtful reflection, person-focused care and meaningful improvements to patient experience and outcomes. Participants reported increased confidence, greater recognition of their workplace learning and a stronger appreciation of their own professional growth.

As the first group to undertake EWBL-P, these students have also helped shape the future of the module through their feedback and experiences. A number have chosen to remain involved as peer supporters or to undertake further studies, helping to encourage and guide future participants.

We would like to congratulate all students who undertook the programme and thank them for their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to help shape this exciting opportunity for Band 5 nurses and midwives across NHSGGC.

Professor Angela Wallace, Executive Nurse Director, said: “Congratulations to all the nurses who were successful in undertaking this first cohort of the Evidencing Work Based Learning – Practitioner module. I recognise the huge amount of work the students and the course team have put in. The module has helped nurses capture the learning they do in the workplace and evidence the person centred care they give to those we look after.” Dr Mark Cooper, Consultant Nurse, said: “Congratulations to all our students and a big thank you to Fiona Calvert from Practice Development and Ann McLinton, Aimie Holland, Lisa O’Donnell from the Person Centred Care team who delivered the module.”
