Celebrating NHSGGC nurses this International Nurses Day

  • 3 min read

This International Nurses Day (12th May 2015), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde celebrates and thanks its nurses not only for the contribution that they make every day, but for how they have helped to shape the future of care.

Last week, the NHSGGC Board approved ‘Leading the Way 2025-2029’, an innovational nursing and midwifery strategy underpinned by a close collaboration of nurses, midwives, healthcare support workers and students. Now, as part of International Nurses Day events, its vision will be brought to life for nursing teams as they start work together to design how it is implemented in the everyday.

The strategy vision is clear: “All individuals, families, and their carers will experience high-quality, compassionate care, through the transformation of our workforce while ensuring that our staff are respected, valued, and nurtured.”

‘Leading the Way 2025-2029’ will be celebrated alongside the amazing achievements and daily dedication from nurses across hospital wards and sites today (Monday 12th May 2025) and will continue with a staff celebration hosted by NHSGGC at Glasgow’s City Chambers tomorrow.

NHSGGC Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor Angela Wallace said:

“As we move forward, we are excited to be working together with our nurses to implement ‘Leading the Way’ in our everyday and to witness the positive impact this makes.

“Tomorrow’s event at the Glasgow City Chambers will bring our strategic pillars to life including the importance of nurses ‘caring for each other’, a key theme for International Nurses Day this year. We will also hear from guest speaker, Tim Keogh, author of a Kind Life who will share his insights on kindness, wellbeing, and positive leadership.

“Understandably, not all nurses will be in attendance so we will also be recording sessions to share the positive messages and direction of travel with everyone after the event.”

Angela continued with an important message this International Nurses Day. She said:

“Our nurses make up over 43% of the NHSGGC workforce and the impact that they have on our health service is huge. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do, and we encourage them to take today as a moment to reflect on what has been achieved this year, and the exciting times ahead.

“Thank you to all our nurses who dedicate themselves every day to caring for our patients and for their colleagues. We value everything you do.”
