NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s apprentices have been recognised for their outstanding achievements at a special awards ceremony celebrating the vital contribution apprenticeships are making across the organisation.
The Apprenticeship Celebration and Awards Ceremony 2026 brought together apprentices, mentors, managers, assessors and education partners to celebrate another successful year for apprenticeship programmes across NHSGGC. Graduating apprentices, award nominees and winners from a wide range of professions were recognised during the event, while senior leaders highlighted the growing impact apprenticeships are having on the future NHS workforce.
The event reflected another strong year for apprenticeships within NHSGGC, with 48 new apprentices joining the organisation and two new apprenticeship pathways introduced in Health & Safety and Pharmacy Support Work. These additions further expand opportunities for people to build rewarding careers while supporting the delivery of healthcare services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nicola Bailey, Deputy Director of HR (Interim), Human Resources and Organisational Development, said apprenticeships play a crucial role in developing the skilled and diverse workforce needed for the future.
She said: “Apprenticeships provide a fantastic route into rewarding careers while helping us build a skilled, diverse and sustainable workforce for the future.
“It has been another exceptionally successful year for apprenticeships across NHSGGC. Our apprentices bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm and innovation, and they represent the future talent that will help shape healthcare services for years to come.”
Among those recognised during the ceremony were apprentices completing programmes in Business and Administration, Estates Services, Dental Nursing, Healthcare Support, Management Accounts, Pharmacy and Procurement.
The event also celebrated excellence through a series of awards recognising apprentices and those who support them. Awards were presented for First Year Apprentice of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Assessor/Trainer of the Year, Mentor of the Year and Apprentice Ambassador of the Year.
The success of NHSGGC’s apprenticeship programmes continues to be recognised beyond the organisation. This year the programmes received a Green rating through Skills Development Scotland’s compliance review, while interest in NHSGGC’s approach has also come from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States.
The awards also highlighted the success of initiatives designed to inspire the next generation of NHS staff. Earlier this year, hundreds of young people attended NHSGGC’s Apprenticeship Pathways Event, where they had the opportunity to meet apprentices and learn more about the wide range of careers available across the health service. The health board currently has around 110 graduate and modern apprentices working across a diverse range of roles.
