This accessibility statement applies to www.nhsggc.scot.
This website is run by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (such as JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. However our website also contains information and guidance intended for staff.
If you have a disability, AbilityNet has simple ‘how to’ guides to make your device easier to use.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
- videos or animations contained within our carousel’s cannot be paused or hidden
- the flip boxes used on our main hospitals page do not show focus when tabbed
- content on the reverse of flip boxes, such as key hospital details, may not be readable by screen readers, but the same content can be accessed via the link which can be tabbed to
- most older and some more recent PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
Technical information about this website’s accessibility
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliance listed below.
Non-Accessible Content
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
- The keyboard focus may not be fully clear for some users when tabbing through links within the carousel (WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible). We are working to improve any issues.
- The focus order is arranged in a way that the pop up banner for joining our ‘Involving People Network’ receives keyboard focus last. If SHIFT + TAB is pressed after the page loads this will select the pop-up to complete the form or close the pop-up. The pop-up covers content across the webpage until it is selected (WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order). We are working improve this issue (June 2025).
- The focus order is arranged in a way that the cookie banner receives keyboard focus last. Pressing SHIFT + TAB after the page loads will select the cookie options.
- Older and some recent PDFs are not accessible. Documents may have elements that are not correctly tagged (WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships), or the language is missing within the settings of the PDF document (WCAG 3.1.1 Language of page). We are aiming to improve this going forward.
- Some images do not have a text alternative (e.g. decorative images), so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). We plan to add text alternatives for all images by December 2025. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
Disproportionate burden
As our website has been developed in-house with additional features and functionality provided through 3rd party plugins, we are seeking to resolve all known issues within the scope of the accessibility regulations either in-house, or through support from 3rd party plugin developers. In cases where there is no fix available, alternative solutions that do meet the regulations will be implemented.
While cost isn’t relevant to any disproportionate burden, time is a factor due to the limited in-house resources available to carry out remedial works in a timely manner.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix archival Board Papers, archival reports.
Any new PDFs or other documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are working with our Equalities in Health department and partners, including Deaf Blind Scotland, to better understand how our website visitors with accessbility support needs use our website, as well as the tools used. This will help shape continuous improvements as well as larger redesign and redevelopment work that we plan to carry out in 2026.
