New video helps patients get the right care at Glasgow GP Walk-In Clinic

  • 2 min read

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has launched a new video to help patients understand when and how to use the GP Walk-In Clinic (GP WiC) at Cardonald Medical Centre.

The clinic provides urgent care for non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt treatment and cannot wait for a routine primary care appointment.

Open 12 noon to 8pm, seven days a week, the service does not require a pre-booked appointment. Eligible patients can attend the GP WiC in person to be allocated an appointment.

The GP Walk-In Clinic can help with conditions including new pain or fever, suspected chest, throat or ear infections, urinary symptoms, skin conditions, muscle or joint pain, stomach or bowel problems, headaches or dizziness, and flare-ups of existing conditions such as asthma.

The service is available to patients registered with 15 local GP practices. People who are not registered with a GP but who live within certain postcode areas can also access the Centre. Patients can check their eligibility on the NHSGGC website before attending.

The new video explains how to find and access the clinic and what patients can expect when they arrive.

Fraser McJannett, Director of Primary Care and GP Out of Hours at NHSGGC, said: “The GP Walk-In Clinic provides eligible patients with another option when they have an urgent health concern that cannot wait for a routine primary care appointment.

“Our new video makes it easier for people to understand when the clinic is the right option for them, how to access it and what to expect when they arrive.

“We would encourage people to take a few minutes to watch the video and find out more about the service before attending.”

The GP Walk-In Clinic is not for medical emergencies or minor injuries. Anyone experiencing a life-or-limb-threatening injury or illness should call 999 or attend their nearest A&E. For minor injuries such as sprains, suspected broken bones, minor burns or bites, people should call NHS 24 on 111.

The clinic is based at Cardonald Medical Centre, 1831 Paisley Road West, Glasgow, G52 3SS.
