From today, thousands more people in Glasgow can access additional urgent primary care through Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s (NHSGGC) Cardonald GP Walk-In Clinic.
The expansion increases the clinic’s catchment population by almost 26,000 patients.
From today (Monday 5 October), patients registered with Midlock Medical Centre, The Crescent Medical Practice, Drs Chita & Hayes, Drs Shields, Dale & Blackwood, Dr McKeeve and Dr Alam’s Surgery can use the service. These practices are among the closest to the Walk-In Clinic and serve communities experiencing some of the highest levels of deprivation in Scotland.
The Cardonald GP Walk-In Clinic provides same-day assessment for urgent care, non-life-threatening conditions that require immediate treatment. The clinic helps people access the care they need quickly while reducing pressure on other parts of the healthcare system.
The expansion forms part of NHSGGC’s commitment to improving access to care and tackling health inequalities.
Fraser McJannett, Director of Primary Care and GP Out of Hours at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “We’re delighted to expand access to the service for a further 26,000 patients. The Cardonald GP Walk-In Clinic is providing patients with another route to access urgent primary care in their local community. This expansion will help ensure more people can benefit from clinical assessment at the walk-in Clinic.
“By extending access to patients’ resident in this area we can continue to improve accessibility, reduce travel barriers and continue to develop a model of care that responds to the needs of local communities.”
Patients registered with the newly added practices will receive information from their GP surgery. You can find out more about the GP Walk-In Clinic, including eligibility, here: GP Walk-in Clinic – NHSGGC.
