NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has welcomed the official launch of a striking new piece of artwork at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, celebrating its role at the heart of the city.
The launch event this week brought together partners and stakeholders to mark the installation of “We Are The Monument” by internationally renowned Glasgow artist Nathan Coley.
Installed on the roof of the Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, the artwork brings a contemporary dimension to a building with a long and proud history of care, education and innovation.
NHSGGC’s General Manager for Oral Health, Lisa Dorrian, was one of the guests at the launch event, and she gave a short speech welcoming the project.
Afterwards, she said: “Glasgow Dental Hospital and School has been a landmark in this city for many years – a place where patients receive expert care and where the next generation of dental professionals are trained.

“This artwork is a powerful, modern reflection of the role the hospital continues to play in Glasgow, and of the communities we serve.”
The illuminated text sculpture centres around the idea that people and their shared experiences are what truly define a place.
That message resonates strongly with the work of Glasgow Dental Hospital and School and the wider NHSGGC, where staff work hard every day to deliver high-quality care while supporting learning and innovation for the benefit of future generations.
Lisa added: “At its heart, this piece is about people, place and shared identity. That’s something that really connects with the work that we do every day across NHSGGC.
“We’re proud to have been part of this project that connects healthcare, community and culture in a very visible way and to see such an important and thought-provoking piece of art become part of Glasgow’s skyline.
“On behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Glasgow Life and the Gallery of Modern Art for their work in bringing this project to fruition and for supporting its installation in such a prominent and highly visible setting.
“I would also like to offer particular thanks to Nathan Coley, whose clear artistic vision for how the work should be presented and experienced was integral to the project, and who recognised that Glasgow Dental Hospital and School provided an especially fitting context for the piece.”
