NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is planning a week of events next week to celebrate World Oral Health Day.

The annual event aims to promote oral health throughout the world, with this year’s day taking place on Friday 20th March.

This year’s event has a theme of ‘A Happy Mouth is … A Happy Life’. It’s the final year of a three-year ‘Happy Mouth’ campaign, and this year the world will be celebrating the oral health of everyone – young and old – and stressing that feeling your best starts with a healthy smile, every day, at every age.

And for the third year in a row, the campaign’s mascot, Toothie, will be back, encouraging everyone to think about their oral health.

In the run-up to the big day, oral health teams across NHSGGC will be holding events throughout next week, spreading a positive message to patients and members of the public of all ages.

As well as setting up shop in various NHSGGC sites, members of staff will join forces with local non-profit organisations to ensure the positive message about oral health reaches as many people as possible.

Throughout the week, events will be held at the following venues:

  • Tuesday 17th March, 1pm: Pollok Health Centre, 21 Cowglen Rd, Glasgow G53 6EW
  • Wednesday 18th, 11am: David Cargill Centre, 166 Ledard Road, Glasgow G42 9RA
  • Thursday 19th March, 9am: Greenock Health and Care Centre, Wellington St, Greenock PA15 4NH
  • Thursday 19th March, 10am: Daffodil Club, Boyndie Street, Glasgow, G34 9JE
  • Friday 20th March, 10am:  Craigend Resource Centre, McLeod Street, Greenock PA15 2HD
  • Friday 20th March, 1.30pm: Tannahill Centre, 76 Blackstoun Road, Paisley PA3 1NT
  • Friday 20th March, 10am-3.30pm: Royal Hospital for Children (atrium)

Michael McGrady, Consultant in Dental Public Health and Chief of Dentistry at NHSGGC, said: “As Toothie says, a happy mouth is so important to a happy life, and every year we are proud to support World Oral Health Day.

“Throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, our Oral Health teams work with dental practices, local authority and non-profit organisations, and our own Public Dental Services, to support access to NHS dental care.

“World Oral Health Day is an opportunity for us to take our message out into the communities we serve, and we hope you will be able to come along to one of our stalls, and say hello to our teams.”
