The third meeting of the Safety and Public Confidence Oversight Group took place this week. Updates were provided on the communications and progress made since last month’s meeting, and the following key points were discussed:
1. Final Draft Terms of Reference for SPCG
Final Terms of Reference for the SPCG have been agreed, with the previous draft updated to incorporate input from SPCG members.
2. Patients, Families & Public Engagement
A survey was issued earlier today to around 400 patients/families with a recent experience of adult and paediatric haematology services, with a number of responses received within the first hour. Early indications suggest several respondents would welcome the opportunity for 1:1 engagement.
3. Environment and Technical Assurance
A structured, system-wide programme is underway to strengthen assurance across water, ventilation and infection control, combining expert-led review, robust data and clear targeted communication. External experts are and will continue to be involved to advise on developments throughout this work.
4. Professional Relationships and Leadership
A programme of work is being taken forward to improve relationships and ways of working across stakeholders, including strengthening engagement with staff and external partners and establishing more effective mechanisms for resolving professional differences to support a more collaborative and constructive culture.
5. BMT Unit Options Appraisal and Risk Assessment
Option appraisal and risk assessment for the BMT Unit has now been completed, with expert evaluation, including independent input – with Option 2a identified as the preferred option, and formally approved on May 13th. All options under consideration met JACIE standards.
6. JACIE Update
JACIE certification was re-awarded to NHSGGC on May 14th, following completion of the inspection cycle. Further advice will be sought from JACIE on the specific wording to be used in relation to the cycle of re-certification.
